You might need to lower the grid size down to one unit to be able to accurately clip along a cylinder. As for complex shapes (like cylinders with lots of sides) you're better off using props for that, as far as I'm concerned.

in all the years i've mapped for source/goldsrc, i've never thought about doing it this way! i've always started with 1 wedge, then copying and pasting it and using vertex manipulation to fit one quarter of the object, then copying and pasting the wedges and flipping them to fit the other 3 quarters. this may save some considerable time on many circular objects, though will also take longer on others

I must say, Upon first seeing it, I had a very similar response. Mind you, that didn't stop me from playing along myself. There has been quite some media attention, and I’m not sure if that has inadvertently helped... but I personally, don't feel i'm contributing much, if anything, to the cause by simply change my picture on Facebook. For me, it was more something 'fun' to do that may perhaps have positive repercussions.

I think that's supposed to be a reflection of how difficult hats are to obtain regularly in-game; they want people with hats to feel special

In regards to updates, the problem is that IE is a core Windows component so keeping it up to date isnt as simple as a 3rd party app. Also, the european union screams anti-competitor whenever Microsoft tries to automatically provide IE or Media Player or anything like that, which is one of the reasons they dont actively force people to upgrade. It's a damn shame.

I don't think XP is dying out at all. People are still attempting to avoid Vista and 7 like the plague in the work places. Shame Dell is still offering downgrades, I'm sure other big boys are too.

I think in all honesty, IE needs to adopt updates not dissimilar to Firefox or Chrome, where updates are managed internally by the product. Using an old version of Firefox will have you periodically harassed to update.

But while I dislike IE6, IE7 is no better and has actually stepped backwards in compatibility in some items where IE6 doesn't. Things like absolute positioning, or certain display: types. So when IE6 and 7 are banished from this earth, I shall be a happy happy man.

IE8 I don't actually mind ALL THAT MUCH. Honest. Still far from perfect, hoping IE9 brings that my hate-factor down enormously.

Yes, IE6 can go to hell, it doesn't even support proper PNG transparency. I'm thinking it's possible that people will start wanting to take advantage of HTML5 in the next few years and will therefore be forced to focus on newer browsers. Also, it seems XP is starting to die out, which means no IE6.
